I must add the incredible very poor quality of the paint and the very
unstrengthened metal body parts (hood, roof, doors, etc)
Regarding every good points of the car as good HN suspension, roominess,
comfort, etc, It is not acceptable this lack of quality.
I was driving at approximately 65/70mph on unlit wet motorway(M9) two
nights ago , when without warning all lights ,wipers , dash lights
and all instruments went out with instrument needles (Speedo, oiltemp,
temp , revcounter , fuel gauge ,etc )falling to zero .
Very unnerving , but , within two/three seconds everything came back
on and service light was illuminated on Speedo. I decided not to stop
but continue the last 20 miles to home. When I arrived I decided to
try "Check Control" to see if anything came up , it immediately
flagged up "Engine Immobiliser Fault" and the message could not be
stopped from flashing up continuosly. I switched off engine let it
lie for 30 seconds and restarted , fault was cleared and service
light off.
I had experienced this once before when vehicle was 2/3 wks old , but
as it was new and I inexperienced in it's use ,and I was pulling out
of a layby at the time (on holiday in Spain)I thought perhaps I had
done something wrong (in a funny way it seemed like a near stall
situation first time round although I did wonder how I could stall a
2.2hdi Auto).
On this occasion Aircon was heating and didn't change over to Eco as
it did last time , on both occasions doors locked as if internal lock
button had been pushed.
I would appreciate views on what happened and also similar
experiences, I have not yet decided whether to take to dealer , as
consensus from reading this group would suggest utter incompetence in
UK (Scotland) and as I consider this to be a real safety issue I'm
also considering trying to force Citroen to refund\replace.

Comments re.fault , or dealings with Citroen
appreciated.Incidentally , previously owned two new Xantias , no
problems and thoroughly impressed with this car , but wife uses this
most of time doesn't do much driving and the sharp intake of breath
from her during this experience suggested that she may have panicked
in the same situation.
Hi all,
I have just found your group having owned a C5 for nearly 2
Years! I have a vast range of experience regarding faults and
problems with this car. To date the followg has occured on my car:-
Hard rear suspension - Rear Spheres replaced ( 2Weeks after delivery)
Flickering Head lights - Caused by exesive current draw by
suspension pump, 60 Amps! - Still not fixed, Citroen report this
as 'Expected behavior'.
Rear Seats - Where shall I begin! Rattling, clunking, squeaking.
The problem goes away when someone sits in them, They have now fixed
this after 18 Months of trying.
Air Bag Fault. - This occurd on no less than 4 occasions, they had
the car for 3 Days at one point. The Citroen U.K. Technical tem even
came to look at it. This was diagnosed as bad connectors. Now fixed.
Gear lever Selector switch - Failed to select Gears manully - Switch
replaced.
Faulty Track rod end - Replaced.
1 Ignition cap failed - Produced fault on display as Environmtal
system failiure and the engine runs very badly.
5 Ignition caps failed - Not quite sure how 5 can fail at once....
Replace and all is well.
Colour Display goes blank. - This occured once and has not come back.
Radio / CD buttons in-operative. - Software update to car fixed this.
Boot (Trunk) lock not locking when closing - Lock replaced
Passenger Door Lock not opening - Lock replaced
Rear NS Passenger Door Lock Not opening - Lock Replaced.
Rear OS Paasenger Door Lock not opening - Lock replaced.
Squeaky breaks. - First told this was normal for an automatic !
I have driven 4 auto's all different makes, never had this.
As a 'good will' gesture, they cleaned them for me, 2 months later,
squeal !!!! They then told me the lubricant they use had been washed
out by rain!! O.K. They have now changed the pads, problem resolved.
Underlying shudder through car at 67Mph - Replaced Front suspension
spheres - Still not fixed.
TraficMaster EMU failed - Part not currently available ! - Not Fixed.
All of these faults occured at roughly 2 Month intervals, so that's
the expected time between failiures on this car, 2 Months.
The ignition cap failed 200 metres from the Garage after a service!
A tip for quieter driving on Motorways, Change your tyres. I now use
pirelli's, much quieter that the standard Michelins.
The Model I have is the C5 Exclusive SE V6. When it works it's a
great car. I have also seen a multitude of odd things not working.
Turn the car off, wait 5 miniutes, turn it on again, and then it
works.
